Publishing in the Future with Timed Releases

Sometimes you want to publish a Page in the future, on a particular date/time (“I’d like this to go live next Thursday at noon.”).

In addition, you may want a Page to be available only until a particular date/time (“We don’t want our Christmas Page to be available after January 1st.”).

Maybe you want both!

With the WebSanity CMS, you can set:

  • a Start date/time, without a specified End
  • an End date/time, without a specified Start
  • a Start and End date/time

Follow these instructions to set a start and/or end date/time.

  1. Go to the page you want to set up with a specific date/time of publication.

  2. Hover over Edit and press Permissions.

The Page Permissions panel will open.

  3. Select Manually from the Assign Permissions dropdown menu.

  4. Press OK when you are warned that “Changing this setting will affect this page immediately. Are you sure?”.

  5. Click on View.

    The View panel will open.

  6. By default you’ll see three Groups:

    • Guest: Normal visitors to your website who do not log in; in other words, anyone who is not an editor.
    • Registered Users: Users who log in to your websites who are not Administrators; for instance, if you have a section of your site set up as Members Only, those folks would be Registered Users).
    • Administrators: Editors who are Administrators.

You may see additional Groups depending upon your website’s specific settings.

You can set a start and/or end date/time for one or more Groups, while ignoring all the other groups. In other words, set a start and/or end date/time only for specific Groups.

  7. Most commonly, you will want to change the start date/time for the general public, who are in the Guest group.

To set a time that the Page will go live for that Group, click on the clock icon to the right of Guest.

The Add Access Entity panel will open (yes, that is a terrible, nerdy name that WebSanity has no control over).

  8. To set the start date/time, check the box in front of From & then change the date & time. You cannot change the date & time until you check the box.

If you just want to start at midnight on a particular day, select the day & then check the box next to All Day.

  9. To set the end date/time, check the box in front of To & then change the date & time. You cannot change the date & time until you check the box.

NOTE: You do not need to actually set an end date/time unless you really want an end date!

  10. Press Save to close the Add Access Entity panel.

  11. If you want to set a start or end date/time for any other group, click on the clock icon to the right of the Group’s name & repeat steps 8-10.

  12. Press Save to close the View panel.

  13. Press Save to close the Permissions panel.
