Adding files one at a time

  1. Go to Dashboard > Files

  2. Press the Browse… or Choose File button.

  3. Select the file on your hard drive that you’d like to add to your website.

  4. Press the Choose button.

  5. Press the Upload File button.

  6. The Upload Complete panel indicates a successful upload.

    After a few moments, depending upon the size of the file & the speed of your Internet connection, you’ll see the Upload Complete panel, indicating that the upload was successful.

    You now should address the two tabs in that panel:

    • Basic Properties (the default): Properties are information about the file; specifically, its Title, Description, & Tags.

    • Sets: File Sets enable you to group your files together into logical sets. Doing so will make managing them much easier.

  7. Edit Basic Properties.

    You can change three things on the Basic Properties tab: Title, Description, and Tags (if you look at the file, you’ll notice that those words are hyperlinked).

  8. Edit the Title.

    Click on Title.

    Enter a new Title.

    Press the icon to the right to save your change.

  9. Edit the Description.

    Click on Description.

    Enter a Description that is meaningful to you and your co-workers.

    Press the icon to the right to save your change.

  10. Don't worry about editing Tags unless you know they're used on your site (we typically don't use them).
  11. Click on the Sets tab.

    The Upload Complete panel changes to show you information about Sets.

  12. If you’ve already created File Sets and want to use one…

    You’ll see your File Sets listed. If you want to assign the file to one or more of those File Sets, check the boxes next to them.

  13. If you want to create a new File Set…

    Scroll to the bottom of the list of File Sets to find the Add to New Set field.

    Check the box in front of the text field.

    Enter the name of the new File Set in the text field.

  14. Press Update to add your files to File Sets.

    This should close the Upload Complete panel, unless you first go back to, or are still on, the Basic Properties tab. In that case, continue to the next step.

  15. Close the Upload Complete panel if necessary.

    Click on Close in the upper right corner of the panel to close it.

  16. View your new file in the File Manager.

    TIP: If you don’t see your new files, reload the File Manager webpage by pressing your web browser’s reload button.

Adding files in bulk

  1. Go to Dashboard > Files

  2. Press the Upload Multiple button.

    The Add Files panel will open, with the Upload Multiple tab selected.

  3. Press the Add Files link on the far right of Upload Queue.

    NOTE: If you don’t see the link, you probably have a Flash blocker installed. Set your Flash blocker to allow Flash on your website.

  4. Select the files on your hard drive that you’d like to add to your website.

    Find the file or files on your computer that you want to upload and select them. You can select multiple files at the same time.

    On Windows, select multiple files using Control or Shift.

    • Control allows you to select individual files that are non-contiguous, or not next to each other.

    • Shift allows you select files that are contiguous, or next to each other. Click on the first file, then hold Shift and click on another file, and all the files, including the first you clicked on and the last, will be selected.

    On Mac OS X, select multiple files using Command or Shift.

    • Command allows you to select individual files that are non-contiguous, or not next to each other.

  5. Press Choose/Open (This will depend on your operating system) after selecting your files.

    You will notice the files you selected are added to the Upload Queue.

  6. Repeat as necessary until you have all the files queued to upload.

    Press Add Files, choose your files, & press Choose/Open, until you have all the files you want queued for uploading.

  7. Press the Start Uploads button.

    Note that the maximum size for files is 32 MB.

    If you need this size increased, talk to WebSanity.

  8. The Upload Complete panel indicates a successful upload.

    You’ll see the File Sets panel.

    You’ll see your File Sets listed. If you want to assign the file to one or more of those File Sets, check the boxes next to them.

  11. If you want to create a new File Set…

    Check the box in front of the text field.

    Enter the name of the new File Set in the text field.

    Leave Make Set Public checked.

  12. Press Update to add your file to File Sets.

    Keep in mind that you’ll affecting all the files you uploaded as a group. If you would rather work with files individually, you can. Refer to Sets in another lesson.

  13. View your new files in the File Manager.

    TIP: If you don’t see your new files, reload the File Manager webpage by pressing your web browser’s reload button.

Note: After uploading your files, It is a really good idea to enter nice Titles and Descriptions for each file separately.
